Tabil Tunisian Spice
Foundational Tunisian spice blend highlighting coriander and caraway seeds, garlic, and dried chili.
Ingredients
What you’ll need
- 1/2 cup whole coriander seeds
- 2 tbsp caraway seeds
- 1 tbsp dried garlic powder
- 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
Method
How it comes together

Toast coriander and caraway seeds in a dry pan over medium heat (350°F / 175°C) for 2 minutes until aromatic.

Let cool. Grind toasted seeds, garlic powder, and chili flakes in a spice grinder to a fine powder.

Store in an airtight container in a dark cupboard. Use within 6 months.
Accuracy note
Fresh garlic must not be ground into a blend intended for pantry storage; use thoroughly dried garlic.

Tabil is the core flavor signature of Tunisian culinary cooking, distinct from Moroccan ras el hanout.
